Woodinville is a city located in King County, Washington. As of the 2000 census, the city had a total population of 9,194.

At one time, Woodinville was heavily forested; with trees so big their stumps could be used as shelters or as temporary houses. So, it was no wonder that loggers and their families were drawn to the pristine area.

Although the saw and shingle mills have been replaced by boutique wineries and a vibrant retail core, Woodinville is a distinguished Tree City USA (1996 to present) and has incorporated the preservation of its "northwest woodland character" into design and development guidelines.

Through citizen efforts in the early 1990's, the incorporation of the City of Woodinville as the 32nd King County city (out of 39 cities) became effective March 31, 1993. Incorporation required a "vote of the people" which passed its third time on the ballot in May 1992. Woodinville became the 270th Washington city to incorporate. An interim City Council was elected and served until the next general election held in November, 1993.

Today, Woodinville flourishes with retail centers, restaurants and business services. Industrial and manufacturing companies flank Woodinville's north and south corridors. Future design for our downtown areas include encouraging office/retail development north of the downtown core, transit-oriented development and a Master Plan for mixed-used development in the heart of our City.

Woodinville is primarily a community of single-family dwellings, with about 37% multi-family development. We are served by the Northshore School District. The Woodinville community encompasses residents and businesses within the 98072 postal zip code and who reside in King and Snohomish counties. The population is estimated to be 9900.

Woodinville is located in the north central section of King County, immediately east of the intersection of State Route (SR) 522 and Interstate 405. We are located at the north end of the Sammamish Valley River Valley where Little Bear Creek meets Sammamish River. The valley is shaped by steep, thickly-wooded slopes where most of Woodinville's residential development is located. Commercial, industrial and agricultural activities mostly cluster on the valley floor, although there is some light industry located on slopes and plateaus.

Our corporate city limits are generally described as the lands bounded on the north by the Snohomish/King County line, on the east by 170th Ave NE north of NE Woodinville-Duvall Road and the Sammamish River, on the south by our Tourist District and NE 145th Street (State Route 202), and on the west by 124th Avenue NE.

Woodinville Attractions

Tourist-oriented winery and brewery facilities are located within a unique district on the south edge of the City. As you enter Woodinville from Redmond, the Hollywood School House comes into view representing our historical heritage. Heading west on SR202 (Woodinville-Redmond Road) brings you into the heart of our Tourist District where you are greeted by Willows Lodge, Redhook Brewery, Stimson Lane/Chateau Ste. Michelle Winery and Columbia Winery. If your timing is right, you may catch a glimpse of the Spirit of Washington Dinner Train.

Extremely popular for sports enthusiasts, residents and visitors alike trek on foot, bicycles, horses and in-line skates along the Sammamish River Trail. The trail extends over 9 miles along the banks of the Sammamish River from Bothell to Marymoor Park in Redmond. A non-motorized bridge connects trail users to our Tourist District attractions.

Downtown Woodinville is a mere 1.5 miles from the south and is accessible by SR202 (Woodinville-Redmond Road) or by 148th Avenue NE. Our main street, NE 175th Street, is pedestrian and bicycle friendly and offers an array of retail shopping, restaurants and business services. Visitors can't resist Molbak's Nursery and Greenhouse. In July and August, the place to be in downtown Woodinville is DeYoung Park- home to the lunchtime DeYoung Concert Series on Thursdays.
